How to eat a peach?

This time there is no recipe for this delicious fruit...but some ideas of what to do with them.

1. Cut it up and eat it, if it is ripe to perfection you will love the flavor and the texture. Put it on your cereal, in a salad, in a relish or a salsa...YUM!

2. Grill it - cut them in half, try not to destroy the one that still has the pit, brush the flesh side with a little bit of oil to keep from sticking and grill until tender.  This brings out so much of the sweetness you will wonder if you have gone to heaven on the nutrition highway!!

3. Okay, look at the picture really closely...yes that is CoolWhip!!  I would prefer you not put that on the delicious grilled peaches, but...

4. The perfect Italian peach bellini...that is all that needs to be said on that.  This doesn't mean you have to drink alcohol there are non-alcoholic versions as well.

Most important thing in eating peaches is to keep the skin on whenever possible...that is the winning ticket!  Canned peaches appear to have similar benefits as the fresh peach, but diminished due to processing.  If going canned, make sure there are no added sugars or syrup and try to find ones with the skin on to receive the most benefits.

Peaches, peaches, peaches!!

Eat them...a lot of them!! These lovely little wonders are full of vitamins and fiber.  Just one peach has only 58 calories, 2 grams of fiber and a list of vitamins (see the blog for the full list of beneficial nutrients)

I live for the season when the donut peaches (yep that is what they are called, almost makes it sinful to eat, NOT!!) are in season, these little gems are so sweet and juicy and the best part is the pit is easy to get out.  I remember when I was growing up my mom would inevitably get the juice from a peach or a nectarine down the front of her shirt when she bit into it, and that does not come out without a lot of effort. (take note of that!)  So, I always cut up my peaches and nectarines to get the full benefit without the laundry hassle...have you tried to get the pit out of a peach without totally destroying the peach?  I still haven't learned how to do that, and that is one of the reasons I love the donut peach.
